In a relationship,

Common purpose let's you grow in the same direction.

If you're both jellyfish floating in the current, you will grow apart.

You need a spine, and drive, or you go with the flow.

Even a corpse can go with the flow. Its natural for corpses to flow apart.

I would add that difficult conversations are part of having that common purpose. Many don't do it in fear of hurting each other's feelings or avoiding an argument, but if we let it all go, it builds pressure. Discussing goals, finances, what we can do differently and what can keep us attracted to another, in my opinion ensures we Mahi Mahi instead of jellyfish.

Very true. Without honest and open conversations, you end up with a shallow relationship at best.
