Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has vowed to remain in office despite a disappointing performance in Sunday's parliamentary election. The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), which has governed Japan almost continuously since 1955, is projected to lose its ruling majority. Ishiba cited the need to "fulfil my duty by protecting people's lives and Japan" as his reason for staying in office.
