I think the deal was ending this thing with a plea without having to go through the extradition bad press. I mean, the actual extradition not the judicial process towards the extradition.

Looks like that, but why? Just to avoid "bad press" for Biden before the election? I think the impact of the Assange case on the US election is zero.
