The majority don't think for themselves. They follow the crowd. At our founding, there were not enough who would accept this, so the crowd would refuse. Now there are more people who don't value freedom, informed consent, and independence and that have been taught to blindly follow authority by the government indoctrination centers (public schools). Those fully indoctrinated obey authority and those who don't think follow the crowd.
