GM! Did they say if it’s a SMART meter?

They’re installing them across Austin so they can surveil peoples water usage closer.

We opted out when they came to install but now they’re saying we’ll have to pay a monthly fee and $75 install fee for a new meter that’s not SMART.

Curious if these are being rolled out away from the city as well

No, they didnt. I think whats happening is that out here in the country, there has been an increase of RV's, tiny homes, etc, being put on an existing property (probably people cant afford housing), but still just one water meter. Water company says this is against code or some crap.

Must be treating the extra housing like it's a commercial property.

I think its just a money grab, shaking people down.
