Hydra Linnaeus 1758 named after the scientist and is the parent species to Hydra Vulgaris. Hydra have regenerative capacity and do not age or die of old age - biologically immortal. The Human Genome Project 2003 demonstrated that Hydra share a minimum of 6,071 genes with humans.
