I chose NTFS for some of these external hard drives because I have all 3 major OS on various machines and they can all use NTFS. IIRC, FAT doesn't work well for huge drive sizes.
What do you have against OpenMediaVault (omv)?
Can you elaborate in details? And what's wrong with exFAT?
