People bring up 1984 and BNW all the time, but Asimov's Foundation also has some interesting sci-fi prophecies.

One particularily relevant in present times, is the "Science as Religion" part of the Foundation's civilizational progress. It is later followed by "Trade" (free markets). It finally ends with a ruling secret cabal reading and controlling people's minds so ¯\_(⊙_ʖ⊙)_/¯
