Ofcourse you can but not every coffee is good as an espresso. I'd rather get an indication from the roaster.
Roaster typically knows best but it’s also good to experiment to learn your taste.

Well if they would'v said the dark roast, I'd definitely pass.
The dark is not super dark in our case, it really depends on each batch but as a guideline:
Our blond is around Agtron 60 our house 50 and bold/dark 40
