There’s no right answer, it comes down to the individual and what they think it’s worth. If you’re not getting enough from spotify(no surprise), than you can move your music to Apple, who tends to pay artists a bit more. If you still don’t think you’re making enough, look into one of the many independent platforms and see if you can make what you feel you deserve, like Tidal.

It should also be noted that you can’t use any past numbers as a metric, since technology has vastly changed how we can connect to the artists we enjoy. In other words, there is no physical product to account for so you can’t use numbers from sold CD’s, tapes or records as a metric.

My best friends, best friend is Jax Jones, he just organised his own tour and it sold out in a day.

Ok?

Self streaming may be the way, using a protocol such as NOSTR and zaps. The artist controls the financials completely.

David Bowie did it himself with the early Internet.

We have the tools to allow artists to have full control.

Well, that’s completely different from what you asked in the post, lol.

Yes, artists can stream their own music but it won’t have nearly the same reach as if you put it on a major platform. People are more likely to stumble across something they like while listening to something else. So, maybe a combination of tradition marketing alongside your own site if they wish to delve deeper into your music, at least for now. As your band grows in popularity, you can start moving away from traditional streaming.

I didn't ask anything, I reposted nostr:npub16c94ez2d7qtrexemrtzw387ff0akmarnm08l3sp46uul865tedvsjtt64t post.

I'm not involved, I just asked nostr for them.

Same difference, lol. You posted a question from someone, I answered.

it's hard to put a value on music these day with such a vast accumulation of music over time and the advances is recording technology and ease.

Exactly, that’s why it is up to the individual to determine that for themselves.

Hell, you could build your own sound studio and really cut your costs, which would allow you to offer your music at an even more discounted price. That is of course if your endgame is about bringing your music to the masses and not just about money.

also straight earning your royalties in a volatile asset that has the potential to go up a lot.
