If you're using Amethyst you can configure your public relays to only send you public notes (home symbol).

For paid relays you can activate all other stuff, too. That way you should reduce spam, as long as the spammers are not willing to pay for their spam. Some shitcoiners might do this, but it seems that they are still very few...
