Human issues aside (protect your people, and fuck military conscription): the subtext here seems to be that GrapheneOS, who afaict refuse to provide info about the team (plusses and minuses there) had a Russian national working as a senior developer.

That feels like a trust issue worth talking about in today's threat environment, as far as informed user consent goes. Not a simple conversation, but...

That seems like it would be at least an equally big trust issue. That is, if you trust the team in the first place that is, rather than trusting the third parties who look at the differences between AOSP and GrapheneOS
