that's exactly what they do, but first they level the playing field by letting people use it for a time, but levy so many exorbitant fines on the businesses that do adopt it, that they're making money off of the people that aren't seeing they're being lead out of business.
then after a few cullings by different laws/levies/fines/fees/etc they are almost there, and just have to do a few things to get everyone else off of the tip.

Then slowly but surely, they track down TCP/IP packet headers,
and then the NSA comes in with more computers, and starts decrypting hashes, but the difference here is they have the backdoor keys to the entire internet. Most people don't know that.
The illusion that govts work seperately of eachother, is entirely a myth. They're all in one big club where they work together and cooperate behind the scenes. For the last 100 years or so, give or take.
So, it's not just the US Govt, it'd be a globally coordinated effort.

Situational Awareness." - I believe you're a nice person and before I went crazy into #Bitcoin, I gave it a some years of research. Tried to break it from any angle possible and realized that monster will live. I'm aware of the price shocks (down, followed by up) that would came after scenario you just came up with. But again, this doesn't mean you can stop it.
The most important thing, they can't stop me, taking it out of the slave country when leaving with my family for a "holiday". Do you have a better option to escape dictatorship with your savings? I would love to know.
