It's circa 2002, my best friend and I lug our giant CRT monitors into the trunk of my car, along with the rest of the PC "gear". We drive through the snow to some random dude's house I've never met, but who my friend knew. This guy is in his late 30's early 40s maybe and his friends are there too, also about the same age. I'm like ok, this is a bit awkward, whatever. It's snowing outside, and beautiful - a cold Michigan night in December. We get there, set up our gaming stations and play some CS. By now everyone is starved and we order a bunch of pizzas. I'm now friends with all of these guys as we've already shared a bunch of great moments gaming. Pizza comes. Dude asks, have you seen Saving Private Ryan? I'm like.. bro, of course I've seen Saving Private Ryan... who hasn't?! He says.. nah, not like this, c'mon... We enter his living room and he has a giant speaker set up. He goes.. watch this... and turns on the scene where they land on the beach. Bullets flying, metal shredding.. feels like I am on that beach! speakers blasting at max volume and it's like 1 am... it's a theatrical experience unlike any I've ever seen. Movie theatres don't compare. I'm blown away... and continue watching the film while devouring 2 whole pizzas. I'm mostly full, for now. Back to gaming. When all set and done it's sunrise and everyone is a bit tired. We pack up and drive home, and start the weekend, doing whatever the hell it is we did as kids.
