I'm working on a master study/copy of "Patroclus" by Jacques-Louis David now. I'm painting on canvas that I prepared by gessoing with a rough texture since the background of the origibal painting is a rocky background. I ragged a reddish color to start since the original has a lot of red tones. This afternoon, I transferred the image with charcoal and painted in the outlines and blocked in the darks with burnt umber. This painting is significantly larger than the last one. I'm aiming for late summer to early fall to complete it.
