if you are not very experienced with lightning and you need a GUI, go with LND. If you are more into it and know more technical stuff than a hobbyist, go CLN

Doesn’t Umbrel have a Core Lightning app with a GUI?
I am starting to get what you are saying. For example:
The seed phrase is stored in an hsm secrect which is in hex
the channel database is done over SQlite3
all of which are not available in the GUI of the Core lightning app.
