Humanity is definitely a bit of both. I for one am not a barbarian. Most of nostr is pretty civilized. I guess you could argue we're not human! Haha
The required motivation to move from civilized to barbsrian is very small.....

A truly wise person can spot the people who so easily choose violence, and refuse to put their eggs in that basket or let them co-opt the systems he has built.
