Yeah, I think the system they use for feature phones is different in Africa, so this will work.

Ive been thinking about this more bc of state of the world or censorship. With the setup your talking about, I guess you still need a satellite connection, electricity for PC, and a mesh device, and a close node.

Yes you will still need some kind of power supply, you can set up a node with a UPS too so that it gives you time to spin up electricity again like a generator and keep your node operational, or have a fall back node in another region of the world that will manage async payments for you so you can just send or receive funds when you get internet access or if you can broadcast a signal to someone who has an internet connection.

I don't think the tech is really geared for that use case yet, but its coming and Africa is a great testing ground for it, if it can survive here, it can survive anywhere lol

That makes sense with the nodes, but over my head. Yeah, I dont think in a doomsday scenario we could use BTC, but it would still be running when things got back to normal.

And the other scenario with: no internet, no satellite. We could still use our phones with cell signal or wifi to spend Bitcoin.

Good mental exercise, but hopefully it never goes that far. ✌️
