Can't you get the same effect of this by just logging in with someone else's npub?

I suppose this allows you to remain "yourself" while having a different follow list and being able to respond (since you can't while logged in as someone else).

Exactly; it’s one thing to go read-only on someone else’s npub; it’s an entirely different thing to interact with that list properly
