I feel like I can't get some friends to try #nostr because they are already so used to the bot hell that other socials are that they just gave up. Not sure if this is true or just my bias, but it wouldn't surprise me.

That is the network effect I think, what I meant is more like a fatigue of trying anything else because they already expect it to be as shitty as the networks they are used to.
