Today is Tolkien's birthday. I'm eternally grateful for his works. A mix of reality and adventure that captured my heart without scripting out the ideas of evil and horror.

He didn't write the hobbit until he was 45 but by then he had already made languages, been in a world war, taught at Oxford, and been a codebreaker.
