BARN DOOR SERIES

____________________

It is time to make the double barn doors for the shop!

They are going to be constructed from Douglas-fir. My lumber yard didn’t have 8/4 Douglas-fir, so I had hand pick nice looking dimensional lumber from the big box lumber yard. I wanted Douglas-fir because it has decent water resistance, nice grain and color. The doors are going to have a clear spar varnish finish, so the color and grain are important.

The finish thickness is going to be around 2.75 inches (~70 mm) so each of the rails and stiles are going to be a double lamination of the wood. This is good because the lamination will give the doors some extra stability.

I have roughly drawn the doors out in CAD, the final dimensions may change.
