*some nuance there, maybe not all terrible, but it’s pretty awful

No amount of moderation or rules can fix a human condition, sickness, or self-loathing. At one point this will trickle more and more into #nostr, and we all will be responsible for trying to set the tone of engagement. The unfortunate extreme being set the past few years to terrible behavior and engagement on social media has been insane centrally imposed content moderation, shadow banning or outright banning, further fanning the flames. Muting is a nice start, and collective muting suggests “I will spend my time and energy on other, better engagement.”
