“From the beginning, Putin hoped the war would demonstrate that American power and American alliances can be defeated, not only in Ukraine but everywhere else. He still does, and for this purpose the war remains useful to him…

“The stark truth is that this war will only end for good when Russia’s neo-imperial dream finally dies. Just as the French decided in 1962 that Algeria could become independent of France, just as the British accepted in 1921 that Ireland was no longer part of the United Kingdom, the Russians must conclude that Ukraine is not Russia…

“We need to start helping the Ukrainians fight this war as if we were fighting it, altering our slow decision-making process to match the urgency of the moment. Ukraine received the weapons for its summer fighting very late, giving the Russians time to build minefields and tank traps—why?

“But the path to end this war does not only lead through the battlefield. We need to start thinking not just about helping Ukraine, but about defeating Russia—or, if you prefer different language, persuading Russia to leave by any means possible. If Russia is already fighting America and America’s allies on multiple fronts, through political funding, influence campaigns, and its links to other autocracies and terrorist organizations, then the U.S. and Europe need to fight back on multiple fronts too.”

Author doesn’t understand a Russian’s stubbornness.

Maybe nobody does. We need to live with that and only way to do that is to accept that imperialistic Russia is and will be an existential threat that cannot be underestimated nor appeased to stop. It will tread forward till faced with a mightier force.

There is no mightier force. Nuke on nuke is as mighty as it gets. Unless you develop some intercept laser that probably doesn’t exist yet.

Maybe a better idea to stop fueling war with aid. 🤷‍♂️

If Ukraine stops Russia advances. That’s not stopping. It’s continuing the genocide that eventually will include the rest of the Europe.

Bit of a stretch

the problem with the article is that the other countries it mentioned who lost their empires are on the losing side of the world order.

The old western and Anglo dominated world which supports Ukraine is over.

All it took was a conflict in the middle east for the anglos and yankeestanees to forget about Zelensky and Ukraine.

But when you start a war with swastikas tattood on all your soldiers, you are on the losing side if history and will pay heavily they way they are now.

Author thinks we live in the 90s / early 00s.

Author thinks the West is in the drivers seat.

It's precisely that type of thinking that almost brought us to nuclear annihilation.

Luckily the focus shifted.

New narrative: Our oh-so-free democracies weren't decisive enough to lead a war with the neighbouring power center so we need an even tighter grip on our population.

Thinking that we decided to lose the war instead of admitting to have been overpowered seems to the chosen coping mechanism.

Love to see the think tank neo con chicken hawks fuming before their keyboards while the world moves on.
