I wonder

How to see on #nostr a real info about what’s happening in LA?

Nothing?

Then #nostr has failed:(

And saboteurs have succeeded

And nut jobs

and incompetent development funds that have failed to address the many privacy and secrecy related issues that sending this kind of info out would require.

i mean, such reporters could use tor for their nostr access but i severely question why we have to outsource this so completely when the protocol could provide a lot of the protection that is needed.

and the other thing is that the non-commercial oriented nature of these development funds has seen very slow progress at all at improving the quality of clients and relays, relays especially, and the protocol itself. if there was commercial nostr deployments the funds would exist for this kind of privacy protection because businesses would demand it.

Can't really use Tor for nostr right now, no good apps for it

The local apps are shit like Amethyst that apparently uses compromised Tor project code, and nostrudel that requires JavaScript in the Tor browser

It would take a lot of resources to make an actual Nostr app for Tor. Apps like Primal and asknostr.site have these resources but haven't shown any interest in helping reporters etc

*And the web apps are shit like nostrudel

yep, like i said, the noncommercial focus of development funding of nostr is leaving out privacy in a big way. the very same things that businesses would expect from nostr infra services are more or less identical to what journalists would need, with the main exception the journalists need to use tor, where private businesses can use their own VPNs.

So let me rephrase.

#nostr “nobody can stop me talking” is only as great as “unless they throw me to jail or worse”

And yes - tor can be used but it’s painful

This seems to be the censorship-resistant s.n. that does not have the people who really need it.
