The Raspberry Pi 5 was just announced yesterday. For this week's #FOSSFriday, I'm going to tell you about RaspiBolt! If you've ever wanted to run a Bitcoin and Lightning node and you've wanted to build it from scratch, giving yourself full control over the whole process, this is your guide. There are no Docker containers here. 🔥

RaspiBolt is a popular software project that allows anyone to set up a Bitcoin and Lightning node on a Raspberry Pi. This makes it a relatively affordable and easy way to support the Bitcoin network and participate in the Lightning Network. ⚡

RaspiBolt is also a great way to learn more about Bitcoin and Lightning and learn about Linux in general. The installation and configuration process is well-documented, and there is a large and active community of users who are happy to provide support. 🐧

BONUS: You don't have to use a Raspberry Pi Either. That's right. You can use this guide for essentially any hardware. Just don't complete the Raspberry Pi specific configuration steps. I promise you, it will be fine.

When I rebuilt my node a few months ago, I mostly followed this guide to make sure I wasn't missing anything. It works great. I don't use a Raspberry Pi. I use a 4 year old Laptop. 🔥

RaspiBolt is my favorite FOSS node project as it can help people learn command line, how the parts fit together, and best practices for verification.

For building on the Intel/AMD64 architecture, I recommend following the spinoff project MiniBolt. Otherwise you have to specify the correct architecture for prebuilt binary downloads.

There are support groups in popular platforms like Reddit and Telegram, as well as Community here in Nostr!

MiniBolt is just a copy and paste with the architecture changed. The website even used to mention Rapsbiolt in various places 🤣 After I saw that I assumed it was a hack job, and went back to Rapsbiolt.
