What determines the true follower count on nostr? It seems my follower numbers go up and down quite significantly when I check, and I've no idea why.

That's just how it works. It's all based on which relays respond first and how fast they respond.

Need to get my head around relays more. I've paid for eden.nostr.land.
Would you advise I remove all other unpaid relays? What would be the cons of doing that, and the pros?
I might sign up for a few more paid relays, what ones would you recommend?

I like a mix of paid and free. Free helps you find new users. relay.snort.social and really.damus.io allow you folks to be found. That said, Snort now bootstraps random relays instead of their own. I also keep nos.lol aroind because it seems to always work great and it forwards my notes and events to other relays.
