All these lovable characters they told us to cry about, made sob-story movies and Netflix series about, etc. are still alive and well. (Probably VERY well from the hush-money paycheck they received)

The reason is stealing money and brainwashing of the public.
Many believe that eventually they will fake an alien invasion to bring in the new world order (1 world government).

Assuming it’s true (that no one was on the shuttle), the reason would be to explain away why we’ve never been back to the moon. IOW, if the moon landings were fake, they would expect people to wonder why we haven’t been back, and a disaster would explain why budgets got cut, it was deemed too risky, etc.
FWIW, I think the moon landing was *probably* real, but it wouldn’t totally shock me (knowing what I know now) if it turned out to be fake. And if it were fake, they’d need an excuse not to go back.
