"Men" nowadays consider verbal and physical abuse to be displays of their masculinity. That or they're just too scared to approach a woman.

Of course, this is not the case for everyone. I don't mean for this to sound like a generalization of sorts. But, I've seen behavior like this quite a bit. For some reason, when insecure men get their hands on alot of money, they believe that gives them the right to abuse. They have a tendency to become very controlling.
