Democracy today is neo-communism (I like to call it that).
The difference with classical communism is that neo-communism does not seek to abolish private property, what it seeks is to usurp all wealth generated through private property, which includes your salary.
Your property rights are granted by the state. Not sure what's private about that.

The important distinction is no one is throwing you out of "your property" by unchecked physical violence and throwing you in prison (if you're lucky) just for owning a business. These people didn't hesitate to kill you in front of your children and then throw the the children out of their home to take care of themselves at the mercy of strangers (that would risk their own freedom by helping "rich mans child").
Later this became institucionalized.
Later it become watered down, because they run out of stuff to steal and everything declined into a grey depresing misery with occasional glimmers of hope (crushed by soviet tanks in 1968).
