What’s a solid signing device for someone new to store their sats offline ?
Discussion
A) You cannot store sats offline, they never leave the ledger or it would break
B) You don't need a signing device to store a private key offline.
Just backup the key from your wallet and put it on any medium you deem appropriate. Three pen-drive (in case one breaks), metal cold storage card, tattoo under your lip etc etc. If you then want to ever access those coins on the blockchain you'd simply import that private key to a wallet (such as Electrum) while disconnected from the internet. You sign create your transaction and sign it. Then you take the transaction to an online device and broadcast it to the blockchain. done.
After that you can delete the key again from your wallet.
Yep thanks realise the sats are just utxos . He needs a wallet as it’s on an exchange so want him to set up a read only wallet with air gapoed signing device that’s all. Something secure but user friendly
Tapsigner with Nunchuk.
BitBox02, Coldcard Mk4, or Blockstream Jade with Sparrow or Nunchuk.
I heard Jade is good with Sparrow, have you tried it?
Yes, I actually do this for one of my wallets. The Jade can plug into your computer and work with Sparrow fairly easily. You might come across some troubleshooting, but the fixes are on Sparrow's guide on how to set it up.
The Jade is fun too because it comes with some nice coloring cards where you can draw a qr code that holds your seed phrase, think, "wow that's fun!" And then you do it and realize it's a lot of work and drudgery.
The issue with Sparrow for new users is that everything about managing your wallet is available to you, and it can be intimidating for a new user.
Cheers 🤙
Bitkey is as noob friendly as you can get
