These days there are yo-yos made that will not come back to your hand when you tug on the string. They’re called unresponsive yo-yos and they require a trick called a bind to make them wind back up. Those sorts of yo-yos would spin the longest. But it’s kind of a skill thing, if a beginner uses one they may get a longer spin than on a raider say 30-60 seconds instead of 10-20, but if an expert throws one they can get 5-7minutes of spin time out of it. It’s determined by how hard you throw it, how well you maintain its tilt so that the inner walls of the yo-yo don’t rub on the string and slow it down, and the maintenance of the bearing/response system inside. It can be rather complex but with practice I think most folks could figure it out and have a rather impressive sleeper 😊

pretty amazing. I didn’t know. I’m guessing you use an unresponsive yoyo for all of your more advanced tricks?

Yep! The videos where I post the flourishy tricks are done with one of the yo-yos I had made named the Mori, it has a dry ball bearing in it that can spin a long time and the model was designed with long spinning complicated trick combinations in mind :)
