The Church of Gibellina (1972) by Ludovico Quaroni and Luisa Aversa stands as a bold response to the 1968 Belice earthquake that destroyed the original town.

Designed for Gibellina Nuova, the church rejects traditional ecclesiastical forms, instead adopting a Brutalist concrete structure with a fragmented yet unified dome.

The geometric composition reflects both spiritual symbolism and structural innovation, creating a sacred space defined by raw materiality and dramatic light play.

This project exemplifies postwar Italian modernism’s intersection of resilience, memory, and experimental form.
