I know he means this in the sense of profound self-responsibility but unless he paved the roads, built the car he drove, and drilled the oil that it runs on, he literally had help getting where he was going every single time

I don't think he's talking about driving, but yes, I agree we've all had help.

I know but the metaphor was really helpful to me in my life when I was struggling with fear of the burden to be truly “independent”

Yep

Ignorance is bliss 🤣

That reminds me of a wonderful type of gratitude meditation that highlights our interconnectedness with people.

It’s simply sitting and contemplating your last main meal and mentally thanking everyone that assisted in putting that food in your mouth.

It sounds simple but if you follow every single ingredient (and cooking implement) from the moment before that food came into existence it can take a long time.

Even if you’ve grown it yourself, where and how did you get the seeds?

If you had steak, who raised, slaughtered, transported, sold it to you and who cooked it.

Did you use cutlery? Did you use cooking implements? Did you use a dinner set? A recipe book or use on-line recipes?

A Buddhist nun taught me this meditation about a single cup of coffee.

Help comes in many different forms 🙏 💜

Thanks Obama
