every tool has tradeoffs, options are good and you are free to use whatever tool you want
all that said, the recent trezor and ledger news are strong reminders why I have consistently and loudly recommended coldcard for years - I can sleep easy at night, using and recommending the best hardware in the industry

Another option is to use a software wallet that you firewall from the internet until its needed.
I do the same thing with my smartwatch app to prevent my data going back to the company or pulling data from online.
Foundation Passport is pretty good, feels like a Nokia 3300, I suspect it uses refurbed cameras from that generation as it’s a bit dodgy but gets the job done.

They purchased a trezor off a popular classifieds website and are shocked it was fake? Only popular classifieds webites I can think of are craigslist and ebay.
