I heard George Takai talk about his family's experience after Pearl Harbor on Penn Jillete's podcast a few months before I heard about bitcoin. I'm not Japanese, but after executive Order 9066, they took him close to where I was born so the story stuck with me.
His family lost everything just because they were Japanese. So when I did hear about bitcoin, I looked at it through this lens. It's the main reason I find the ability to hold your life's savings with 12 words so appealing. The internment camps could happen to anyone in the wrong circumstances, but anyone with a 5th grade reading level can use bitcoin to protect themselves from this injustice.
That's why I don't think ETF's are so great. I'm no so much afraid of fractional reserve bitcoin because the ledger is public. The autistic bitcoin nerds would figure that shit out. I even understand why someone would use them to save taxes or get a 401k match, but trusted third parties are a security hole and I don't trust the government.
This is also why the SBR doesn't seem like a reason to celebrate. I don't want the government to have an incintive to create another executive order 9066.
