There is a tremendous need for people to belong to something, it's really quite frightful when you think about it for long enough. It makes me question the autonomy of man.

Let's just say that you are an idealistic person, and there aren't any groups that match your ideals, you begin to consider an approximation, a surrogate, because there is a tremendous need to be part of something bigger than you. This is a destructive process in a way.
Its kinda how the body is biologically designed to work. It requires cell to cell communication and cells belonging to certain functions doing their individual jobs within community contributing to the harmony of the whole system. When cellular communication is lost and a cell is isolated, confused and lost to the network it belongs we begin to see a breakdown in the body. Disease starts to happen.
I'll have to take time to consider that insight and what bearing it has in relation to the subject of mortal autonomy.
