Get a smart car they said...

Is there a solution to any of this? An open source OS for a car sounds terrifying. I can brick a phone, but I can't brick a car, cost is far too high.

I'm not so worried about the car, I don't want the car to brick me and my family.

Mazda is conspicuously missing from this list.
