In 304 AD, during Diocletian's persecutions, Iuliu the Veteran, a seasoned Roman soldier stationed in Durostorum (now Silistra, Bulgaria), openly confessed his Christian faith when commanded to denounce it. He was brutally tortured, scourged, and ultimately beheaded for refusing to renounce Christ. Even facing death, Iuliu remained steadfast, encouraging fellow Christians to stand firm in their beliefs.
