This reflects that the people who believe that experts know more than them parrot the views of the experts, and the people who believe they are smart enough to think for themselves about one thing (vaccines) do so for other things as well.

Yes at its base, this is collectivist vs individualist mindset. The former believes it is good and well to outsource authority to a select group of experts, the latter prefers to take self responsibility and not have others make decisions on their behalf. This tension is everywhere in society but it’s little wonder the government always supports the collectivists as they need them to maintain their power.
