My son was asking my yesterday if I can set up a Bitcoin wallet for him. I'd love to get him on lightning but he is too young to have a cell phone. Any ideas on how to set up something physical he can hold and be able to view balances? My thoughts initially was some sort of reloadable satscard with an NFC terminal for him to check balances?

How old is he?

Could give him a tablet and setup a lightning wallet on there.

If you don't want him to use it for other stuff you can "keep it safe" for him but let him stack sats on it and check the wallet etc.

He just turned 6. He has a tablet but it's one of those Amazon fire tablets so I don't know if I'm going to be able to load any lightning wallets on it.

Ideally I want to set him up with something that's kinda single function. So not on a tablet or phone or computer if I can help it. Tryung to avoid the situation where he makes an excuse that he is checking his balance and then 30 minutes later he's on minecraft yet again lol.

Could this be a kid friendly option? Haven't played with it too much, but I believe it can watch an LNbits wallet balance, monitor prices, and give Satoshi Quotes. Seems like a possibility.

It looks like you can install the extension on the test LNbits and setup a software version, so checkout if it'll do what you need, but it looks super cool

There's no hardware wallets for lightning yet afaik. I'm sure there'll be one soon. But in the meantime it's easy to sideload on those.
