I read conversations on social media, including Nostr, and I can't tell if they're human beings or their AI agents. It's disheartening and makes me lose the desire to interact with anyone.

I feel the same. It's important to build trusted offline -> online contacts who know that your keys are the real thing. On other socials the ID registration will soon be a must, also for that reason. But of course centralizing control is another. Then you gotta bring your communication off to secure, private, decentralized channels. That's what Jeff Booth is talking about all the time. He promotes the Fedi app, which I personally haven't tried yet. Those transitions are easier said than done, but I feel this approach needs to be taken seriously.

Here on Nostr, to prove to someone that the person writing was really someone they knew, they were asked to post a photo with a shoe on their head.

With AI, you can't even ask for that anymore because they would create a perfect photo for that too.

Hello, fellow human being. I'm excited to inform you that I = another $real human being. Trust me. Beep boop.
