what strikes me is how the leadership is failing to course correct but even more how it's followers are sinking so deeply into their worldview that they're arguing for corrupt entities, more war, and generally turning a blind eye to reality

An aside:

The YouTube algorithms are rewarding them. Once in a while I watch this batshit crazy lady in Portland who has a permaculture channel, recently she shifted to more outright political content, in the past her views would be a few thousand now she is getting over one hundred thousand for her wack job takes.

It is, helps keep everything locked in place for longer than it should. I think about the woke shit, I actually had to spend time learning about the history of this bat shit ideology when at first glance I immediately rejected it as nonsense, but it would not go away.
