1453 was when Constantinople, the capitol of all Christendom (a superset what we call the "West" now, which at one point included all of Europe and northern Africa), was taken by Muslims and renamed to Istanbul.

Fair point, this was one of my thought process that time but I should have added other too they had huge impact on us, it becomes complicated quickly 😃
