I think I'm going to send one of my T-echo #meshtastic devices up ~300ft on a helium-filled balloon(s) to see if anyone in my area is listening on the default/open network.

I'm pretty sure nobody is, but doing it will satisfy my curiosity and my kids will think it's fun.

That does sound like fun. You can have just about the crappiest antenna in the world. But if you can get it up high, there's no telling what you'll hear.
