Newb question

Do notes posted on here eventually “expire” or fade away? Or will you always be able to scroll back and see what you posted let’s say a year or two from now?

For me on #Damus, I lost old notes 🥺 But maybe we can see with other clients 🤔

That’s why I was curious. Noticed on Damus also

Yes 🤭

It depends on the Relays. A lot of relays won’t store your stuff forever as it doesn’t make any economic sense to do so. If you want your notes to stay, you should back them up yourself using your own relay.

Thank you! I was thinking that would be the case. Would be a huge amount of data if they kept them forever 🤜🤛

Certainly storing 100s of thousands of peoples notes is a ton of data - but I’m a pretty active user and am yet to break 200MB on my personal relay. For users which care about being 100% censorship resistant and retaining their notes forever, it’s pretty easy to do⚡️

Makes sense

I saw a note the other day for a service that downloads all your notes from the relays you use so you can store the data on your own drive - I thought I saved it but it looks like I just thought of saving it. 🤔

Free relays won't store you notes indefinitely. Paid relays might if you pay monthly. Running your own relay allows you to store them forever.

Na. I’m all for letting some of my old notes fade away. Too many typos in my time here 😅🤣

😂😂

Im sure the government is keeping a copy of all of them 👀😂😂😅😬

Haha. 👀👀😅
