Anarchism was the boogeyman to the ruling class before communism came along. Marx and Bakunin were rivals in the leftist movement. Bakunin said you can't abolish the state by first becoming the state because power corrupts and the ends don't justify the means. The communists had their chance and it failed thereby proving Bakunin correct posthumously.
