I feel that pain deeply. It's really hard to find intellectual sparring partners IRL. This is probably why I'm so addicted to Bitcoin & Nostr conferences. It's the one place in my life where people want to engage fully in uncomfortable discussions and push their thinking.

What's strange, though, is that I had so many of these friends (and people in my family) growing up but as I've gotten older, more and more people just intellectually check out. 😞

Yeah - tradeoffs. Living in a place where the language isn't your mother tongue also makes it harder. Even though I speak Italian well, there is a lot of vocab and ways of expressing certain things that I don't know which makes it harder to have nuanced discussions about hard topics.
