Actually not that new (talking about micro payments on sm). My IT teacher in school talked about it, and that was seven years ago.

What is new is that the currency used is not highly inflationary. Some of the sites he showed us (smaller German networks) used their own points or coins that you could exchange for fiat or goods/services.

What's also new is that the social media itself doesn't take a share from the zaps.
