Adam Curry (who pioneered a lot of v4v) talks about this a lot.

If I can summarize it:

It’s not begging because you’re putting something out there to be enjoyed whether it’s a podcast, music, software, etc.

You remind people of that if they like what they are hearing, seeing, using to consider giving what they consider is appropriate.

In some cases there’s a Time, Talent, or Treasure component.

For example with Damus you could offer software development or hosting or sats.

Begging is charity. V4V is reciprocation.
